Skincare Routine with DermaE Ft Dr. Lauren Boudreaux

at

Happy Wednesday and second day of blogmas!  Last month I partnered with Dr. Lauren Boudreaux on how to keep your skin healthy and hydrated during the winter.  I am happy to announce that we have teamed up again to share my current skincare Routine with Dermae Ft Dr. Lauren Boudreaux.

For those of you who have not heard of DermaE, they are one of the largest natural skin care brands in the United States. They make everything from skincare,  body care, hair care, and topicals.  All their products are natural, cruelty-free, gluten-free and GMO-free.

Morning Routine:

Depending on the day, my routine can be really involved or super lazy.  This goes for both my morning routine and nighttime routine, but we are going to go over the items that I use the most.  Please take into account that I wake up at 2:40 AM, so lately my routine hasn’t too elaborate at this time- very simple, but it works for me!  When I wake up in the morning, I start out my routine by using a face wipe to freshen up my skin. Now, it’s time for the important stuff.  The next few items that I am about to mention have made a huge difference in my skin.

  • Derma e Essential Radiance Toner– I love that this toner is toner alcohol-free and contains glycolic acid.  It tightens and smooths my skin while providing a nice luminous glow.
Dr. Lauren’s opinion:

Essentials Radiance Toner: This is an awesome product formulated with glycolic acid, which gently exfoliates the skin and gives you that glow! I love that it is formulated with botanicals like rosehip oils to soothe the skin. Rosehip oil is full of vitamins and antioxidants to keep skin healthy!

**This product is also a squad favorite and one of the top 10 selling products**

Dr. Lauren’s opinion:
Hydrating Face Oil: I love using essential oils on my skin! It moisturizes the skin and given an immediate glow. You can apply directly after cleansing or add a few drops to your foundation. Jojoba oil and argan oil have been proven in studies to keep skin healthy and radiant!
Illuminating Rosehip and Cranberry Oil: Both rosehip oil and cranberry seed oil are packed with antioxidants and fatty acids to hydrate the skin and fight off damage. I would apply this after cleansing 1-2 times a day.

I also use the Firming DMAE Eye Lift in the morning and night.  This eye cream has been a holy grail for the past year and a half.  It firms and tightens the skin around my eyes.  I strongly believe this is why I do not have a lot of wrinkles around my eye area.

**Tip:  Check out local Marshall’s and TJMaxx’s to find discounted Derma E products (old packaging).  If you find and purchase any, be sure to snap a pic of the product and receipt to get $5 off a future purchase.  Good thru the month of December**

Nighttime Routine:

My nighttime routine doesn’t differ too much from my morning routine.  The main differences are that I add a serum and switch up the moisturizer to something more hydrating.  Also, about once or twice a week I implement in Overnight Peel.  The overnight peel is great for renewing skin overnight.

  • Hydrating Night Cream– I first tried this product out two or three years ago, since then I have been hooked.  This is the one product that has been the one constant in my routine ever since and will continue to be.
Dr. Lauren’s opinion:
Hydrating night cream: This moisturizer is formulated with hyaluronic acid which is like topical filler! It draws water into the skin, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. It’s formulated with antioxidants and vitamins which protect your skin.
Dr. Lauren Boudreaux’s Top Picks:

Dr. Lauren Boudreaux is a dermatologist located here in Portland, Oregon.  She also has a great Instagram with amazing beauty tips and tricks.  I love how passionate she is about everything skincare and dermatology with a little bit of Portland thrown in.  Click her picture to check out her IG and don’t forget to follow her!

Keep reading to see her top picks and how she would use the products!

1. After cleansing, apply the Vitamin C Concentrated serum. This helps to reduce pigmentation and protect your skin from UV damage and environmental pollutants. I use mine daily! Follow this up with a sunscreen in the AM and you are covered!
2. Another amazing product they offer is the Overnight peel with Alpha-hydroxy Acids. This will help to accelerate skin turn over, get rid of any damaged skin cells and leave your skin with a  gorgeous glow. Everyone is different in how often they can use these products. I would start with once a week and increase use as tolerated.
3. At night, I would recommend using their Anti-wrinkle Vitamin A Retinyl Palmate creme. This is a gentle retinoid which works to turn skin cells over, reduce pore size, help decrease breakouts, and stimulate collagen production! Basically, it does everything! Apply a moisturizer on top to reduce irritation.
4. Lastly, their Purifying 2- in 1-Charcoal mask sounds awesome. Charcoal will help neutralize toxins from the skin, plus it is formulated with Kimarine® Wakame which is a plant-based antioxidant to help protect against free radicals produced by pollution and UV radiation.  Check out her review of this product here.
Overall a great line, excellent price point, and quality ingredients!
I hope you all enjoyed learning from Dr. Lauren Boudreaux and I.  What’s your favorite Derma E products?

Measurable Difference Review

at

Let’s talk affordable makeup- after all, we are budgetnistas.  Tia and I love finding quality items at a really affordable price because we believe it doesn’t need to be a luxury brand to be good.  We have partnered up with Measurable Difference for this blog post to show you some of the products they offer and a way to get some additional savings.

The Brand

The story behind this brand is pretty amazing.  Measurable Difference, founded by Helma Arminak, a former refugee from Beirut, Lebanon.  Created about five years ago with a dream in mind. Helma aimed to offer great products for face and body but wanted to keep everything affordable.  I would say that dream is being accomplished.

What I Picked Up

The Diamond Collection Well Stacked Makeup Collection- $12.00

This small compact palette comes with a blush, bronzer, eyeshadows, and brow product.  It is perfect for on the go and works well for creating a full face.  If you have been a subscriber for awhile, you know that I work very early in the morning- 5 A.M. to be exact!  I need easy to use, multifunctional products.  The shadows work great to create a nice neutral look for every day.  If you need to transition the look into a night time look, no problem!   I would suggest using some of the eyebrow powder as a shadow to create a smokey eye.  The blush is a beautiful mauve that works well with all skin tones.  The only iffy product in this palette would be the bronzer-  it is a bit dark.  If you are lighter skin toned, I would steer clear or use a very light hand.

Baked Face Blush Mini- $2.00

The blushes are beautiful and affordable at two bucks a pop.  You could easily purchase all 4 colors. All very wearable colors, but two of the colors are better suited for spring/summer.

Posh Matte Liquid Lipstick – Opera-$6.00

Liquid lipsticks have been all the rage for the past few years and these affordable options definitely do not disappoint.  The formula is very comfortable on the lips and lasts a decent amount of time.  The color is different depending on your skin tone and lighting, which I think is pretty cool.  The color comes off on me as a brownish purple- great for the fall season.

Scented Bath Bombs – Green Goddess (Get well quick) Eucalyptus-$4.00

What can I say, it’s a bath bomb.  All bath bombs are pretty amazing.  These smell great and have a great price point.  I loved them so much that I have already bought a couple more.

I’ve found Measurable Difference at stores like Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls- but they can also be found online Measurabledifference.com.  You can get 25% off and free shipping using code 25JACK.  No need to rush!  The code is good until March, so pick up a little something each month.

Private Label: Mink Lash Review

at

Hi, loves!  Do you remember the review we did on Private label lashes last year?  Well, if not, check it out here.  We are breaking out of our “natural” comfortable shell and going full glam with some thick, volumized, luscious lashes.   This year it has been all about changes and trying new things, but I refuse to give up on good brands. Read on to understand why!

Let’s Talk Lashes

Let me tell you a little about Private Label Extensions.  It’s a wholesale company that dabbles in everything from wholesale hair extensions, mink lashes, and branding.  They can assist you with setting up your own business at an affordable price.

The lashes are 100% handmade of mink with double or triple layers.  Since Private Label is a wholesale company, you will receive the lashes unbranded and ready for resale or you can buy in bulk for yourself.  This would be perfect for an MUA kit because you get to choose from many different styles.  They really do cover everything from natural sets to full voluminous lashes.

Chloe- $12.50

The first thing I notice is the case, it’s been upgraded a bit.  Instead of just a clear case, they’ve added the pretty glitter backing.  I am happy to see that they didn’t change the case too much.  Since you get about 25 uses out of these lashes, the case is perfect for storing.

The Chloe’s are my daughters pick for her upcoming homecoming dance because they are full and fluttery, but not over the top.  Think girls night out, date night, or special event.

Alice- $12.50

Each style lash has a different color glitter case.  Perfect to tell them apart!  The Alice are my personal favorites.  They are a full set lash, but very wearable for every day.  Great for work and very transitional into a night time look.

These lashes are very easy to cut to fit your eyeshape, the band is comfortable, and application is super easy.  This is coming from someone who is horrible at appling false lashes.

Application
No lashes applied

False lash to natural lashes

Alice fully applied

Chloe fully applied

Overall I am very impressed with how these styles turned out.  They are not over the top, which is what I like.  I would highly recommend checking out Private Label Extensions lashes and seeing the end result for yourself.  They are amazing quality, pretty affordable, with super fast shipping.  Next on the list to try are the 3D Mink Thinline- so be on the lookout!

#Onebrandmotd- ColourPop

at

Hi, loves!

We are back with another #Onebrandmotd. If you’ve been following for awhile, you know what this is all about. If not, I am talking about a beauty challenge that Gaby, from Beauty by Gaby, and myself came up with called #Onebrandmotd.   This past week one brand motd was Colour pop.

Brand Challenge

For those that do not know what the brand challenge is, let me explain!   Each week Gaby and I will be doing a full face using one makeup brand. We try and cover our faces with as much of the branded makeup as we can.  This calls for creativity when creating the looks.  We have also decided to alternate between high end and drugstore to provide some more affordable options.  I am happy to announce that we have some new collab additions.  We have added two lovely ladies to the group.  You will now be able to see four different one brand looks, so be sure to check out hashtag #onebrandmotd to see the final looks on social media.

Colour Pop

Colour Pop is big in the makeup industry.  Known for the amazing quality and affordability and they also have the same manufacturer as Kylie Cosmetics- Dupes!  When ColourPop first came out, I went on a binge and purchased a ton of their products.  Since purchasing the items, I have maybe only used them a handful of times, so I am glad I was able to utilize them for this challenge.

Pictured above, I have the super shock shadows, blush, highlight, lippie stick, and eyeliner.  I found the shadows really hard to work with if using a brush.  I had to use my fingers to finish applying my look because I could not get them to apply the way I wanted.  The highlight was pretty easy to blend with a brush, but it was a whole other story for the blush.  I found it applied best with a stippling brush.  No issues with the lippie stick or liner.  Pretty basic.

Anndd..here is the completed look!  Overall, happy with it, but was not happy with how long it took to create the look.  I am going to give their pressed eyeshadows a shot and see if they apply better.  I hope you enjoyed this #Onebrandmotd.  Keep an eye out for our Urban Decay  #onebrandmotd post.

#Onebrandmotd- Tarte Cosmetics

We are back with another #Onebrandmotd. If you’ve been following for awhile, you know what this is all about. If not, I am talking about a beauty challenge that Gaby, from Beauty by Gaby, and myself came up with called #Onebrandmotd. I am a bit late with getting the deets up from last weeks #onebrandmotd, I figured it was better late than never.  My kids have returned home from being gone for a few weeks.  Now that the anxiety is gone from, we are getting back to routine.  Last week’s makeup of the week was Tarte Cosmetics.

#Onebrandmotd: Marc Jacobs Beauty

at

We are back with another #Onebrandmotd. If you’ve been following for awhile, you know what this is all about. If not, I am talking about a beauty challenge that Gaby, from Beauty by Gaby, and myself came up with called #Onebrandmotd. This week’s brand is Marc Jacobs beauty.  Last weeks drugstore brand was Nyx cosmetics.  I am a bit behind on doing my look this week.  My kids left for two weeks to go to Korea, Guam, and the Philippines.  I am so not used them leaving for that long and overseas, so I have been a complete wreck, lol.

Marc Jacobs Beauty

We all know the famous fashion designer, Marc Jacobs.  Marc Jacobs created his beauty line back in 2014.  Since the creation of his beauty line, there have been some amazing products made.  Starting with his foundations, high liners, and palettes to say the least.  His line is the epitome of luxury, but with a little bit of shopping around, you can find his products are places like Marshalls and TJ Maxx or take advantage of sales at Sephora.  If you are to try anything, I would suggest trying his high liner gel liners.  They are my absolute favorite!

Now, let’s get on with the look.  The pictures above show the products I used to create my look.  I know, I know.  It doesn’t look like much, but you can do a lot with what you have.

Blush, bronzer, highlight using Object of Desire palette
Eyes- about that night eyeshadow palette
Marc Jacobs gel high liner in cocoa
Highliner lip liner all over the lips

I love how this look turned out.  I loved it so much that I created it this morning for work!  It doesn’t take too much time to apply and very little product.  The highlight in the Object of Desire palette provides just the right amount of glow- think office appropriate.  The shadows are very pigmented, buttery, and easy to blend.  I also found it to be the same for the shadows in the Object of Desire as well.  I am putting all this makeup to the test to see how well it lasts.  Check back this weekend for a second #onebrandmotd featuring Marc Jacobs and for my final thoughts on the products.

#Onebrandmotd: Nyx Cosmetics

at

We are back with another #Onebrandmotd. If you’ve been following for awhile, you know what this is all about. If not, I am talking about a beauty challenge that Gaby, from Beauty by Gaby, and myself came up with called #Onebrandmotd. This week brand is Nyx Cosmetics.  Last weeks high-end brand was Too faced cosmetics.  Unfortunately, I was unable to get my blog post up because of some travel mishaps during my trip Generation Beauty.  That trip is a whole other blog post, so be on the look out for that.

Nyx Cosmetics

Nyx cosmetics was started by Tina Ko back in 1999.  She wanted to a create a great product at an affordable price point.  It became just that.  The ever growing brand started out by just making lip pencils and eyeliners, with the Nyx jumbo eyeliner in Milk being a cult favorite.

My task was to create a simple look with a little bit of color.  I was still able to keep my look very minimal and natural looking.

Deets
  • Total Control Drop Foundation– I’ve been wanting to test out this foundation.  Luckily, I received some samples in a ULTA gift with purchase.  I found applying the foundation with a beauty blender was best.  I tested it out with a kabuki flat top, but it left streaks.  It is a medium to full coverage, with build-able capabilities.

  • Ultimate Multi-Finish Shadow Palette– I received this palette for free at Generation Beauty San Francisco and let me tell you, it was a pleasant surprise.  The colors are very pigmented and blend very well.  I was able to create a nice neutral look and do my browns using the dark brown matte color in the palette. I love multi-use products!  It’s all about being creative.

  • Away We Glow Liquid Highlighter– I received this from Generation beauty as well, but to be honest…I didn’t get much highlights from this product at all.  It was applied to my cheekbones and to my cupids bow.   I can see why they were giving it away for free and why it’s on clearance on the website for $4.90.

  • Mega Shine Lip Gloss– These glosses are an oldie but a goodie.  I love the smell, the application, and the just right amount of color.

I hope you enjoyed this mini review and quick #onebrandmotd using Nyx Cosmetics.  Check back this weekend for a night time look using NYX.

#One brand motd: Kat Von D

at

We are back with another #Onebrandmotd.  You might be thinking what is she talking about?  Well, I am talking about a beauty challenge that Gaby, from Beauty by Gaby, and myself came up with called #Onebrandmotd.  This week we are doing #One brand motd: Kat Von D.

Brand Challenge

What’s a brand challenge?  Let me explain.  Each week Gaby and I will be doing a full face using one makeup brand.  We decided to alternate between high end and drugstore each week to provide some cheaper options.  Check out our hashtag #onebrandmotd to see the finished looks on social media.

Kat Von D

Kat Von D is an amazing brand with amazing products, but after looking in my collection, I quickly came to find that I didn’t own much of her products.  Crazy, right?  This motd called for a lot of creativity.

I actually thought I had a blush and some lippies as well, but as you can tell from the picture above- I only own the Shade and Light Contour Palette and a sample of tattoo liner.  The used the contour palette as eyeshadow, brow powder, and my contour/highlight.

The palette worked great as an eyeshadow- very blendable and the colors worked perfectly.  I am a nudes girl anyway.   I don’t have to tell you how great it worked as a face palette- that’s what it is made for.  As a brow powder, it did the trick.  It went a little bolder than I like, but a little blending and you are good to go.

I am going to take advantage and utilize this palette more for all over the face.  It takes up less space in my makeup bag and great for travel.  Now off to Sephora to purchase more Kat Von D.  I still can’t believe that these are the only products I own.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks #onebrandmotd.  Don’t forget to use the hashtag to show us your look!
